School Information
Fairfax County in Virginia and Montgomery County in Maryland spend more money per student than any other DC metropolitan area counties. Because of higher education spending, schools in both Fairfax and Montgomery Counties have better standardized test scores.
US News in its 2010 Best High School Search has awarded eight Fairfax County high schools, four DC high schools , six Montgomery County high schools , and two Prince George’s County high schools with Gold, Silver, Bronze or Honorable Mention rankings. The number 1 rated high school in the US is Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology located in Alexandria, VA. Admission to TJHSST is based on passing rigorous application and examination process and your children will be competing with students from northern Virginia.
In choosing school districts, I suggest that you look up demographic and standardized test score information for the school district of interest: Arlington County Public School, DC Public Schools , Fairfax County Public Schools, Montgomery County Public Schools , Prince George's County Public School and Prince William County Public Schools.
